Installation Instructions 1. Remove the stock transmission and starter. 2. Remove the clutch and flywheel. If your going to use the stock sheet metal dust shield, you will need to modify it to fit the new starter/bolt locations. You can do this by fitting it to the adapter ring prior to installation. 3. Pre Fit the adapter ring to the block and check that the dowels do not protruded past the face of the adapter ring, grind the dowels as needed. 4. The adapter ring should also be pre fit to transmission to check the starter gear inside the bell housing. You may need to clearance the inside of the bell housing to allow proper movement of the starter gear. The gear will move rearward approximately 1/2 when starting, be sure to clearance back far enough. 5. Be sure all road grit and oil has been cleaned off the flange area on the block. Bolt on the adapter ring with the supplied bolts. See diagram 1. Thread locker should be used on the adapter bolts. 6. Install the flywheel spacer and flywheel with the new 10mm bolts. Be sure to check that the bolts do not bottom out and jam before they tighten the flywheel. Use the supplied washers if they do bottom out. Use thread locker on the flywheel bolts and torque to factory specs. Hold the clutch disc on the flywheel and check the springs in the hub for clearance to the new flywheel bolts. If the springs contact and you used the washers, you can remove the bolts and grind the first few threads off to allow removal of the washers. If contact still exists, clearance the bolt heads as needed. 7. The flywheel spacer comes with a new pilot bushing installed. The clutch can now be reinstalled. Follow factory or clutch manufacturer specs for clutch installation. 8. Install the shifter bracket of your choosing. (If using the Xcessive bracket and linkage, see instructions included with shifter.) Do not install the shifter at this time. 9. The VG transmission will require one hole to be drilled out to accommodate a 12mm bolt, 15/32 or ½ drill. This hole is located on the drivers side, first hole down from the two across the top of the VG trans. This bolt passes through the adapter plate directly into the block. See diagram 1 for the bolt/hole location. 10. Install the two supplied 12 mm dowels in the bell housing, NOT the adapter plate. Bolt up the VG transmission using the supplied bell housing bolts. See diagram 1 for bolt locations. Install the new transmission mount with the stock hardware, the long slotted holes go on the drivers side. If using the stock VG rubber mount, you will need to use the 4 steel round spacers and 12mm fine thread bolts. The spacers go between the new mount and the body. 11. Install the shifter. Its easier to hook up the shifter with the drive line out. 12. Install the clutch slave cylinder. Due to differences in clutch hardware, some clearance issues may need to be addressed to properly install the slave cylinder. The clutch hydraulic line may need to have the frame bracket extended to allow proper flex in the hydraulic line. 13. Install the new drive line with factory bolting hardware in the rear.
Advantages to the Xcessive VG transmission adapter 1. NO disassembly or cutting of the VG transmission. Bolt in and go. If something happens to the transmission and needs replacing, you dont have to rework anything. NO machine shop or shipping cost with the bell housing not to mention waiting for it to get done. The transmission remains usable on VG engines as well.
